Frequently asked questions
Who sees my criminal record during translation?
The translator and the second reader who checks the translation against the original. Nobody else. No copies are shared, nothing is discussed, and the file is deleted as our privacy policy sets out once the order is closed. A clean record gets the same discretion as any other.
My extract is a few months old. Should I translate it or request a new one?
Check what the receiving administration says first: many want a recently issued extract, and each sets its own cut-off. If a fresh bulletin is needed, get it from the court registry before translating. Translating one the embassy will consider stale wastes your money.
The extract says « néant ». What happens to that word?
It is rendered with the wording an English-speaking officer expects for a clean record — “nil”, no entries — and the rest of the extract, court seal, registrar’s signature and date of issue, is translated around it in full.
