Who the rule spares
A birth certificate from Bamenda, a GCE certificate, a bachelor’s from Buea: already in English, they go into a US file as they are. What needs us is the French half of Cameroon’s paperwork — a birth certificate from Douala, a police certificate from a francophone court registry, a marriage certificate drawn up in French.
The embassy for Cameroon is in Yaoundé; the translation does not ask you to travel. The only journey is the one your appointment letter asks for — with the original and the certified translation in the same folder.

Frequently asked questions
I was selected in the DV Lottery. Which documents should I translate first?
Only the ones in French. Start with civil status — birth certificate, marriage certificate if you are married — and the police certificate. Selection windows are unforgiving: a document still at the translation stage when your case number becomes current is a delay you cannot afford.
Does a certified translation guarantee my visa?
No, and be wary of anyone who suggests otherwise. The decision rests with the consular officer, and with USCIS or the NVC at earlier stages. What a proper translation guarantees is narrower: your documents will not be the reason a file is sent back.
