The margin is where files come unstuck
A marriage, an acknowledgement, a correction: on an older certificate these are written in the margin years after the birth, usually by hand, sometimes barely legible. They are also the first thing a foreign officer looks for.
We translate every one of them. When a note cannot be read on the photo, we tell you before the quote rather than guess. Whatever stays illegible is marked as such in the translation — never filled in.

A recent copy, a duplicate: that is the council’s job, not ours
Many checklists want a certificate issued within the last few months, sometimes on the secure form. That is a requirement on the document, not on the translation, and it is met at the civil status centre that holds the register — usually the council where you were born. Born in Kumba, living in Douala? Your register is in Kumba. What the 2024 law calls a full copy, a later copy or an extract is set out in birth certificates in Cameroon.
Get that copy first, then have it translated. The other way round, you pay twice.
When there is no birth certificate, but a judgment
When a birth was not declared in time, a court orders its registration. Under the 1981 ordinance that decision was called a jugement supplétif; Law No. 2024/016 of 23 December 2024, which replaced the ordinance, calls it a jugement déclaratif — a declaratory judgment — and keeps “supplétif” for replacing a record that was annulled or marked provisional. How much does it cost to translate a birth certificate in Douala?
10 000 FCFA incl. tax per certificate, flat, however many marginal notes it carries. Send a photo on WhatsApp and we confirm the price and turnaround, Monday to Friday, before you commit to anything.
My certificate is on a bilingual form. Is it bilingual?
Not necessarily. The printed headings are in both languages, but the entries were filled in by hand in one of them, and stamps or marginal notes may be in the other. What counts is the language of what was written, not the language of the form.
I have a declaratory judgment instead of a birth certificate. Can you translate it?
Yes. It is translated in full as a court decision — court heading, parties, reasoning, operative part and registry entries — and billed per page like any judgment. The translation must show it is a judgment, not pass it off as an ordinary birth certificate.
