For the MEXT scholarship, Japanese is not required: English is enough. Before paying for a Japanese translation, read this page — it may save you most of the quote.

The rule is written down, and it is simple

The scholarship guidelines ask for documents written in Japanese or English; failing that, a translation into one of those two must be attached. Nothing requires choosing Japanese. For a French-speaking Cameroonian file, the useful translation is therefore most often French into English — the one our own translator does at the office.

The file is submitted to the Japanese embassy, never directly to the ministry in Tokyo: the guidelines say so in plain words. When a university or a laboratory expressly asks for a Japanese version, our partner translator for Japanese takes it on.

For English, our own translator translates and signs. For every other language the translation is made and certified by a partner translator for that language; we tell you who before we start.

Before you order

Japanese is not required: English is enough. For most Cameroonian files the useful translation is therefore French into English — the one our own translator does at the office, without a partner. Pay for a Japanese version only if the university itself asks for one.

The verified fact

The MEXT scholarship guidelines require documents written in Japanese or English; a document in any other language must come with a translation into Japanese OR English. The file is submitted to the Japanese embassy, never directly to the ministry.

The flat rates for French ↔ English are published on the rate card; for every other language the price is quoted on WhatsApp once we have seen the document, and it is firm. The eight document types we handle are listed on the official document translation page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Japanese translation for the MEXT scholarship?

No. The guidelines accept Japanese or English. If your documents are in French, an English translation is enough for that step, and it costs less than a Japanese version.

When does a Japanese version become useful?

When the host university or a laboratory expressly asks for one, or for an administrative procedure in Japan that makes no room for English. Show us the written instruction: if there is none, we will say so.

Where is the file submitted?

To the Japanese embassy responsible for Cameroon, under the embassy-recommendation route. The guidelines explicitly rule out sending documents directly to the ministry in Tokyo.

If no written instruction requires Japanese, we will say so — and you will pay for an English translation instead, which costs less.
