Certified Italian ↔ French translation in Douala

The Italian Embassy in Yaoundé publishes its own list of translators, updated regularly. We are not on it, and we would rather you learned that here than at the counter. It closes no door: the embassy accepts translations from outside the list, but it checks them more closely, and that takes time.

Off the list does not mean refused

The embassy’s document, dated 11 March 2026, says two things. First, that the list gathers translators officially approved by Cameroonian legal institutions, and that it is updated regularly. Second, that users may supply translations by translators who are not accredited — subject then to deeper checks, which can lengthen the wait.

In practice: our translation can serve, but it will be looked at more closely. If your appointment is in ten days, this is not the moment. If you have time, or if the document does not pass through the embassy, that is another matter — and our partner translator for Italian handles it.

For English, our own translator translates and signs. For every other language the translation is made and certified by a partner translator for that language; we tell you who before we start.

What the source says

The Italian Embassy in Yaoundé publishes a list of translators officially approved by Cameroonian legal institutions, updated regularly. It also accepts translations from translators who are not on the list, but those undergo deeper checks against the original texts, which can lengthen the wait.

Before you order

Verbatim is not on that list. For a file going through the embassy this does not close the door — it accepts translations from outside the list — but it adds a check, and therefore time. If your date is tight, the embassy’s own list, or the honorary vice-consulate in Douala, which also translates between French and Italian, will be faster than us.

Frequently asked questions

Must my translation come from a translator on the embassy’s list?

No — the embassy also accepts translations from translators who are not accredited. It checks those more closely and warns that the wait can grow. The list is published on its site: look at it before choosing, especially if you have a filing date.

What is the dichiarazione di valore?

A document written in Italian, issued by the Italian diplomatic mission in the country where the qualification was obtained, stating what that qualification is worth in the Italian system. It is not translated: it is requested from the embassy, with the file it asks for.

Who translates into Italian at Verbatim?

A partner translator for Italian, named before the work starts. Verbatim receives the document, coordinates, checks and hands over at the Japoma office. Firm price on WhatsApp once we have seen it.

What about legalising the translator’s signature?

When the embassy legalises a translator’s signature it charges its consular fees, on top of the translation itself. They are two separate costs: ask the embassy for the amount before you budget.
